The World for Student Journalists
Maintaining an Ethical Program
When it comes to student coverage, it's easy to forget how personal a stake our subjects have in our work. According to the Highlander Publications policy statements, the staff works "to present facts and opinions in a fair and honest manner on issues pertaining to students at Homestead." However, like all publications, ours on occasion falls short, and it is in those instances that our commitment to ethics must be at its strongest. From misspelled names (left), to unappreciated features (center) to undercovered activities (right), complaints are often voiced informally, but not without conviction. We make a point of responding to each and every question/concern we receive on any of our platforms, and utilise each ethical mistake as a learning opportunity to improve our staff as a whole.
