Over the past several years, I have developed a special interest in social media. It is truly one of the most powerful tools of our generation, and there is always untapped potential in social media marketing and outreach. I've had the privilege of running or helping to run over four different Instagram accounts during my time in high school- not even including my personal account. Some accounts require design teams to appeal to large groups of students, like @homestead411, with over a thousand followers. Others, like @homesteadfilmclub, must be configured to entertain more niche audiences. It's an art and a science, social media, and I hope to explore it more in the coming years.
Commitment to Diversity: Through my This Week in Photos incentive on @homestead411, which features a weekly gallery of the top student life photos taken by staffers, the social media journalism team managed to feature over 200 unique students so in the 2021-22 school year. While the yearbook and website often feature many of the same students, social media offers students in all classes, sports, and activities to see themselves represented on our page.
